What Molly Knows For Sure About Believing

When you believe in something, really believe.

Last month many celebrated Christmas. Kids were going nuts waiting for the night when Santa would come to bring them their dolls, trucks, bikes, XBoxes etc. Those kids who believed in Santa believed with all their heart that he would fly through the chimney and eat their cookies then ride off with his nine famous reindeer. Why did they believe so much? When I was growing up my parents actually taught me there was no Santa. I was the kid breaking the truth to all other kids in school, but it is interesting to look back and remember those kids I told who still held to their beliefs. They continued to believe their parents until one day they would break it to them. Some kids even after their parents would tell them there isn't a Santa, refused to believe the truth. One mother this season told her son there was no Santa at an earlier age than she wanted to because she couldn't afford to keep up with his expensive gift requests. Still this son would not believe his mother.

The question I want to pose here is not why some believe in something. I want to know why some people, including myself, could say they are a believer in something and then only go halfway? Did you ever hear a kid say, "I believe in Santa, just not his reindeer."

When we believe in something we should really believe otherwise declare ourselves undecided. This applies to anything in life. If you only go halfway with things you are holding yourself back. You could have a belief in education, but never give yourself the time to go to school. You could believe in family unity but never invite a brother over. We are all guilty of saying we are advocates of something and then doing hardly anything to show it. I am one who believes in family unity but never invites a brother over. I also know cleanliness is good, but why don't I put out the effort to keep my room tidy? What is going on in my heart is "I think that's a nice thought, but it can wait." But no, it shouldn't wait. When we say we believe in something let's throw our lives into it. Work to be a better person.

My complete belief in certain things has helped me to grow as a person. For instance I believe in my writing therefore I am doing all I can to be successful in that area. If I were only half-believing none of my dreams would be coming true. Please, if you believe in furthering your education go and do it. If you believe in your talents, further them as well. Really believe. The same goes for religion.

What I really know for sure on this topic is a person without beliefs is lost; they can be blown every which way without direction. That goes for half-believers; they are also the undecided. Maybe you are thinking "boy I am one of those undecided on many topics." That's okay. We are here on Earth to learn. Sometimes we can become confused at times on what to believe. Base your beliefs off of if it is good for you and good for mankind. And please remember that once you believe in something, you owe it to yourself and others to prove it through your actions.
