What Molly Knows For Sure About American Idol

This season I have seen more talent on American Idol than ever before. Why is that? Maybe because they raised the age limit all the way up to twenty eight. I really like this show and what I have come to find out is that people either love it or make fun of it. I have been interested in reality shows ever since Survivor came out. It's usually those same people that hate reality shows in general, who hate American Idol. But there are many fans who tune in every Tuesday and Wednesday to see who they will vote for in the end. What makes the show so intrigueing? I know it is not only the range of vocal talent but the personalities of the auditioners.

First of all they have some really weird people trying out and the viewers are all asking the question,"Who told them they were any good in the first place?" or "Can't they hear themselves?" In the case of William Hung he outdid all weird auditioners with his moves and voice, but he sold some records. It may have been made as a parody, but I know he had a cuteness factor. I'm not talking about the boy next door "cuteness," but he was small and nice and happy-go-lucky. Even though he stunk, he made us happy watching him. He was an entertainer of sorts. Then there are other weird people who overdo gimmicks or sing like a chipmunk. We have to give them credit for believing in themselves though, even if you know and I know their chances of stardom are unrealistic.

Then there are the good-looking guys and girls who think they can get through the final rounds by flirting with Paula or Simon. Their talent is lacking and they are praying that if they wink at the judges or put their name lovingly into a song that it will somehow magically push them to the next level. These auditioners needed to work more on practicing their singing.

Next are people who sound really good to us as viewers and the judges totally shock us by dumping them at early stages. One of these great performers had a twin brother. He made it through barely while his twin was rejected. Simon said to the twin before letting him go that he seemed "desperate." Who wouldn't be? The twin that made it to Hollywood had complete vocal talent and Simon quickly booted him off the show after his second tryout in Hollywood. I wasn't the only one shocked about that.

There's one type of person I would definitely like to comment on now and that is the person who makes it through to the final rounds and just before the last leg they are sent home and in that moment of being sent home they cry that they will never make it in life or that they can't take another rejection so they'll just go back to doing their same ol' job and forget about their dream. Do you wonder about those people too? They have been blessed to come so far in the show and because they are rejected they give up all hope. These people need a reality check. I want someone to shake them and say, "Hey you are one of the few out of thousands who have made it to this level. You need to be grateful and continue pursueing your dream if you want to do it so bad." Did you hear how Shakira's choir teacher said she sounded like a goat? Look at what she made of herself. And these people who made it to the final rounds on American Idol don't sound like goats; they sound really good!

If you are a people-watcher, American Idol is for you. I have just shown you the many personalities of auditioners and it is interseting how they all cluster to a category of their own. The last personality I haven't mentioned is the all around winner; the one that has that gleam in their eye, gets along with everybody, has graciousness and charisma all on top of a great singing voice. They are the winners. The complete package. You can be sure a person with all of those attributes will win every season. From Kelly Clarkson to Fantasia. And I don't care what those American Idol Hater's say, it IS entertaining-- I know that for sure.
